#LoveManurewa is committed to sports field and lighting upgrades. During the 2019-2022 term, when budgets were slashed due to COVID-19, Joseph Allan, Chair of the Manurewa Local Board, still managed to find a way to fund field upgrades and new lights at Mountfort Park and War Memorial - without selling any land.
This term, 2022-2025, under current board leadership however, delivery has been lacking, and now Action wants to sell our parks.
Public Workshop 24 October 2024
Find out for yourself what the current board leadership is "thinking" by reading the abridged transcript and/or listening to the full recording of the public workshop below. The conversation starts with Matt Winiata, who was put in as Chair of the Local Board by the Manurewa Action Team.
Matt (Action Team) then gives direction to staff to proceed with the investigation for the sale of Leabank Park. Click any of the speech bubbles above to jump to the place in the recording.
Love it or List it?
Only recently Action sold Wiri Trust land held since 2000—the first land sale in the
54 years of the trust. A Councillor in Action voted to sell our Auckland Airport shares, ignoring public opposition!
Gridlock
If Leabank Park is sold to developers, Mahia Road will become a massive carpark and cause further congestion on the Weymouth, Wattle Downs and Clendon roundabouts.
Is my local park safe?
Action is also looking at further land sales to fund a library upgrade. Are asset sales their only solution to budget shortfalls?
What can I do?
To secure your local park and stop park sales vote #LoveManurewa for the Manurewa Local Board and Joseph Allan and Angela Cunningham-Marino for Manurewa-Papakura Ward Councillor.
